Come see an exciting new housing technology being brought to Athens!
You are cordially invited to the “pour down” of the Athens Area Habitat “Build With Strength” home, which brings insulated concrete form (ICF) technology to Clarke County. For residents, this means a quieter, disaster-resistant home that’s up to 60% more energy efficient than wood framing, but looks just like a “stick built” home inside and out. For builders, it means avoiding the astronomical price-hikes of lumber, plus a quicker, less labor-intensive process.
Athens is one of just 16 cities chosen to participate in the Build With Strength partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). We see this as the lead project for what is soon to become a widespread method of home construction in our region.
On Friday, February 18, we’ll be pouring the concrete into the constructed insulating forms. Come see how it’s done and learn more about the benefits of this technology to our community. (RSVP by February 16 appreciated so we know how much food and drink to have on hand.)
